We Shot the Moon hit the road.
A San Diego-based indie quartet with piano-fueled melody (Jack’s Mannequin fans, take note), We Shot the Moon is preparing for the release of its sophomore LP, “Silver Lining,” arriving in physical form on October 27 and digitally on September 29. The new album, a follow-up to 2008’s “Fear and Love,” was produced by Mike Green (Paramore, The Matches) and, true to its title, finds the “The Brightside” and the occasional “Miracle” in 11 tracks of upbeat, positive-minded pop/rock.
As fans await the arrival of the new album, the band’s Minneapolis-based label, Afternoon Records, is offering six free tracks via download to prime the pump. It’s a free EP’s worth of new tunes – three songs from the new CD and three bonus tracks.
We Shot the Moon is led by former Waking Ashland frontman Jonathan Jones on vocals/piano. After that talented, but little noticed, band broke up, Jones found himself working at a pizza joint and unsure of his next step. After a friend convinced him to give music another shot, Jones added various players to a new band and bought himself a 15-passenger van because, as he tells it, “I knew if I bought a van, I would have to do it. So I did and I haven’t looked back since.”
Last year, We Shot the Moon played more than 300 live dates, and now they’re headlining a full slate of shows with support from Mansions and The Record Life on the West Coast and Lights Resolve and Destry on the East Coast.
