Welcome to our latest installment of Discover Lake Oroville. In this series we share the five secrets that make this Lake such a compelling destination.
Secret#4 - Floating Campsites
A rarity in California, Lake Oroville has ten floating campsites - all of them accessible only by boat and located primarily in the Middle and South Forks of the Feather River. Anyone who's ever experienced having their idyllic camp site overrun by adjacent rude or disruptive campers will appreciate the privacy these 'private islands' offer.
Each site measures 20ft x 24ft, on two levels separated by a bank of stairs. It's a very utilitarian arrangement that is short on style but long on the necessities that make these destinations perfect for fishing, swimming, barbecuing and just simply hanging out.
Each site can accommodate up to fifteen people and is equipped with a camp table, sink, propane barbecue grill, food locker, a lockable closet, restroom, and a shaded living area. Campers need to pack their own food, drinking water, sleeping bags and tents.
Don't have a boat to take you to your floating campsite? Not a problem. Forever Resorts rents boats from their marinas, strategically located on both the north and south ends of the Lake.
We've included a short video of one of these campsites, shot on location in May 2013.
