Discover a matchless paradise at the Viceroy Bali

The first time I saw Bali it took my breath away. We arrived by cruise ship. It felt like we just discovered a tropical paradise of birds, lush foliage, sparkling blue waters and the sweetest people on earth. If you’ve never been, highlight it on your bucket list.

There are many gorgeous places to stay on the island, but  one particular stand out is the Viceroy in Ubud, where you’ll enjoy an amazing matchless experience in a bedazzling setting  poised on a ridge overlooking the verdant Valley of the Kings in central Bali.

Located just seven minutes’ drive from central Ubud, there are 25 Bali-styled luxury pool villas, appointed with bespoke amenities and surrounded by the sights and sounds of indigenous exotic flora and fauna-- each with its own open air living area, complete with private pool. Inside, the décor is beautifully Balinese-themed.

Each villa comes with a living room with sectional sofa, oversized king bed, nicely-sized bathroom, espresso machine, 47-inch television, and iPod docking station. The villas range in size from 1,615 square feet (Garden Villa) to 4,306 square feet (Viceroy Villa), complete with balé . Of special interest for families and other larger groups: two of the deluxe terrace villas can be connected to form one large one; also, the villas are wheelchair-compatible.

Complimentary perks include daily á la carte breakfast, Wireless Internet connection, daily restocking of the mini bar with non-alcoholic drinks, an espresso maker with Illy coffee and views of the marvelous Petanu River Gorge as a bonus.. Naturally there’s room service around the clock, too. The amenities are very special as well.

While the warm, humid climate isn’t too inductive of working out, there is a top notch,  air-conditioned gyms equipped with  free weights as well as cardiovascular and resistance training equipment. Private yoga classes are offered too, and for the slightly adventurous, group classes can be arranged to learn the art of Balinese dance. The large infinity-edge pool is well sized for serious swimmers as well, while the romantic balé overlooking it provides a resting place for the less ambitious.

Spa zone:

The Spa may be more appealing, especially in Bali, where treatments are almost magical. The hotel’s Lembah Spa combines the best of western and Balinese techniques to provide wellness treatments in a tranquil setting that reflects the spa’s therapeutic focus. There’s also double massage rooms with showers (one with a double bath), a steam room, a cold plunge pool, a 68-jet therapeutic American Jacuzzi, and relaxation decks overlooking the Petanu Valley.

Many guests never leave the grounds of Viceroy Bali, but for those who want to go out and explore, there’s a free shuttle to town to do some shopping or museum-hopping. Or they can take a bicycle ride through the rice paddies to one of the many nearby temples, book a grand helicopter tour, do some birding or play golf.
