Gun control took a backseat to price control at a pizza restaurant in Virginia Beach. According to the Los Angeles Times, in a report dated Feb. 20, the owner of the pizza restaurant is giving discounts to anyone who brings a gun with them.
Jay Laze, the owner of All Around Pizzas and Deli, got the idea from a frozen yogurt shop in Utah. It had boosted sales in Utah and he was hoping it would do the same at his restaurant.
All Around Pizzas and Deli gives a 15 percent discount to customer who comes in with a gun or has their concealed-carry permit. Since starting this last Friday, he has seen about six times as many customer as usual.
“I think it is a brilliant idea,” Cassie Hawkins, a proud gun owner from Oklahoma City, said. “People need to know they are protected by the Second Amendment and, as long as they have a permit, can carry their guns with them.”
In addition to see more customers, Jay Laze has also seen a lot of different kinds of guns. His first customer to get the 15 percent discount brought in an AK-47.
“I wish I could get a discount everywhere I carry my gun,” Hawkins continued. “I'd be saving money all over town. I have a permit to carry and my gun is always with me.”
The pizza restaurant has gotten lots of phone calls as well. There had been at least 45 people that called to say they like the ideas. Only three had called to complain. Some customers say they “actually feel more safe” with guns in the pizza restaurant. One woman brought in two guns and asked if she could get a 30 percent discount, seeing she had brought two guns.
It appears that Virginia Beach residents love their guns. They also loving getting discounts on pizza. Now that the two have combined, All Around Pizza and Deli is cashing in.
