Over the past few years, I have written articles about how disc golf is not only a fun and challenging sport to play, it is also a good form of exercise. Disc golf is good exercise explains the benefits of playing disc golf as exercise. You can get a good workout and burn some real calories, to stay or get in shape.
There are so many positive reasons to play disc golf. It is fun, it’s a challenge, it’s exercise, it’s one of the least expensive sports you can play, you can play a quick game in ½ an hour, or play longer championship courses in 2 hours, or play a few rounds like my partners and I play, we generally play 2 rounds of 27 holes each time we play in about the time it takes to play one round of ball golf, for $5.
The discs range in price from $6 to the mid $20 range for the special dyed discs. You can play a good competitive game with as few as 3 discs. If you have not played, you really need to get out and give it a try. You don’t even need to spend anything to give it a try. The elm creek park reserve in Maple Grove MN will rent you discs to give it a try.
I recently was told about a new tool, to really show you how you can use disc golf as a workout and burn fat. It allows you to see how you can use disc golf as the most fun way there is to get in shape. This tool just requires you to input some information about yourself, then it shows how many calories you will burn when you play.
This tool was created by Clint Henderson using some real science. Clint goes over the science that he used to do the calculations, Clint said, “The calculation is done by providing the MET (metabolic equivalent of task) of disc golf. The Compendium of Physical Activities, done by Dr. Bill Haskell of Stanford University, offers the METs of all sorts of physical activities. Unfortunately, disc golf was NOT on the most updated list (however, we did request for them to add it to their next study).
So, we estimated the MET of disc golf at 4.0, which is slightly below the 4.3 of playing ball golf, walking, while carrying clubs. The estimate is slightly lower because of the weight difference in carrying a bag of discs vs carrying a bag of golf clubs.”
The calorie calculator is on a site called Disc golf station that is Cliffs website, where you can also get the other tools you need to become a disc golfer.
The calorie burning calculator will give you a great way to track the calories you burn, every time you play disc golf.
No matter what age you are, you can get out and play disc golf. I have been playing since 1978. Most of the people who play were not even born when I started to play, but at 55 years old I still beat the young guys a majority of the time, age is not a factor in playing disc golf. Disc golf, or Frisbee golf as some call it, is a lifelong sport and a great way to get in and stay in shape, and it’s not like other exercise, it’s fun.
