Hey, guess what there is no apostrophe after Veterans Day and there is still no accounting for the destructive manner in which America treats its brave soldiers.
Truths of the matter; citizens of New Hampshire and persons beyond the granite state, forget that sometime trite statement, home of the free because of the brave!
Does Walmart now hire Vets? No questions asked? Yes, but only young and recently released men and women. Is that enough? No, mostly likely not. Two local Vets who fought for our country when many of us were still wet behind the ear; have no ‘real’ insurance and no leg to stand on if indeed a medical emergency arises or long term illness sets in. They are older. They have been forgotten. And, worse yet, they were the founding fathers of fighting for what America stands for.
Strange Facts about what we do not do for our Veterans. What of the catastrophic mistreatment of our wounded soldiers?
*260,000 veterans will be homeless this year
*35% of those returning from the little ‘Conflict’ we just had will be diagnosed with PTSD
*5.5 million Veterans are living with a disability
It is difficult at best to understand the calamitous climb in substance abuse among Vets. The 131,000 homeless because they were brave. The marital discord. The lack of proper medical care. The list goes on and on.
Veterans have somehow become disposable persons in a nation that appears to always be in conflict. To act now is of the upmost importance for New Hampshire, New England and America for we continue to spread our conflicted self to other countries and the population of disabled American Vets will only get larger.
To be involved is to volunteer with Disabled American Veterans Association. Hire a Vet for home projects. Not turn a blind eye to those who have given so freely of themselves.
Destruction is no different than a looming Doomsday. It starts at home with conflicts unresolved.
