Disabled eight-year-old girl found locked in cage in New Mexico (Video)

A girl was found locked in a wooden cage in New Mexico Friday. According to a Jan. 29 Huffington Post report, a woman locked the eight-year-old girl with developmental disabilities in the cage while she took her three children and boyfriend to see a movie at an elementary school.

The woman’s estranged husband also went to the school for the movie and called police when he learned the girl was left in the mobile home alone.

Police waited an hour for the woman, Cindy Patriarchias, to return to the trailer so they could get inside. They found the girl locked inside a homemade wooden cage with crib mattress inside.

The girl didn’t appear to have any injuries and was placed in child protective custody. Patriarchias said she has been trying to adopt the child, but has been unable to reach her mother to finalize the process. The girl suffers from microcephaly, a condition that causes an abnormally small head.

Patriarchias was charged with neglectful child abuse and her boyfriend was charged with permitting it to take place.

Sadly, this isn’t the first case of police finding a child locked in a cage. An Arizona father is currently on trial for locking his toddler in a metal cage.
