Disabled children help Duchess of Cornwall decorate Clarence House tree

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, invited disabled children to help her decorate the Clarence House Christmas tree Tuesday, December 6 – St. Nicholas' Day. According to reports, as the Duchess crouched down to chat to a young princess in a wheelchair and helped a three-year-old deck the halls, she became emotional. In an interview later, she commented that it was hard for her not to cry and that it "put things into perspective" -- especially when said three-year-old's mother was also in tears.

The annual event sees children assisted by the London Taxidrivers' Fund for Underprivileged Children, and the Helen and Douglas House Hospice, at Clarence House. There, they decorate the tree and are treated to a tea party as a highlight of their short lives.

Eight of the children study at Jack Taylor School in Swiss Cottage, a school for children with severe learning difficulties; they arrived in a convoy of taxis led by a specially decorated Rudolph taxi.

Welsh Guard Charles Fraser-Sampson was on hand to assist, and let some of the children play with his bearskin hat or, using his ceremonial sword, helped them add the finishing touches to the Clarence House Christmas tree.
