Robert Zemeckis, who's directing the remake of "Yellow Submarine" (which we announced here) for Disney, says he'd love to have Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr on board.
In an interview with MTV News, he said, "We haven't gotten the word yet on the two surviving Beatles, whether they're interested in doing it or not."
But asked if it would be his choice for them to be in it, he said, "Of course it would be."
He also said he hopes the new version will be something special. "I think it's a perfect example of a movie that can be re-envisioned in the digital cinema and be absolutely beyond spectacular. ... I call it, 'Yellow Submarine: The Digital Trip!' "
"The Beatles have always been a great source of inspiration for me," Zemeckis, who was the director of the charming 1978 film "I Wanna Hold Your Hand," says. The movie was set around the Fab Four's first appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show."

Perfect ending to the movie just like the'68 release. But my idea would be maybe McCartney would be waiting around,(looking at his watch)expecting his party to pick him up to go to his destination. However Ringo walks up to him and says:
RINGO:Whats up?
PAUL:OH Hey,Waiting for my party to show up.There running a bit late.
RINGO:Oh I see. You need a lift?
Paul:Nah,Im fine.
Ringo:Are you sure,I can drop you off.
Paul:Yeh,maybe I will take you up on that,Let's go.
Ringo:Good.
Then the two of them start walking to there destination of Ringo's vehicle, however it's not a car but a YELLOW SUBMARINE!There's even an Old man waving to both of them to get in( which is OL'Fred)And the look on McCartney's face would be great with a quick fade out and then the credits to the movie start to roll.
I'm still hoping the project gets canceled. There is no reason to remake this movie at all.
Those who speak out to have the project cancelled are not thinking clearly. In the digital age this movie has the potiential of immense visual improvements. They could use any Beatles songs in the canon, not just the same 15 used in the original. This could open the way for a new soundtrack version on CD that would be DIGITALLY REMIXED as these songs would have to be mixed in surround sound for the film. Even if the film is a mixed bag, you still have the original, it doesn't affect the original in any way, other than to bring MORE attention to it. People this is DISNEY, it's not like they have a bad track record for cartoon films.
While I haven't loved the style of Zemeckis's animated movies, I'm not ready to condemn this movie without seeing it. Apple has generally aligned itself with high-quality product and is very protective of "the brand." Plus I forgot that Zemeckis directed "I Want to Hold Your Hand," which is actually a big positive in terms of demonstrating what the Beatles probably mean to him on a personal level.
