Director Peter Berg and Will Smith see 'Hancock 2' as a reality

Most everyone loved the mean-spirited, drunken superhero, “Hancock,” brought to life by Will Smith. After several years, is there a sequel in the works?

It seems there may be. That is, if cast and crew can all come to a meeting point. Director Peter Berg and Will Smith released the film during a time when superhero movies were beginning to burn out due with fans.

In an interview with Comic Book Movie, in May 2012, Berg talks more about the possibility of “Hancock 2” that seems to be under construction:

We’ve been talking about the sequel between us, Will Smith, Michael Mann and Akiva Goldman and myself. We’re all interested but we literally just have trouble getting into the same room at the same time. We did have a series of meetings last year and started to hash out an idea for a sequel and Will Smith actually had the idea. So I think it will happen, it’s just a question of timing.

“Hancock” grossed over $624 million worldwide. It makes sense the group would consider a sequel.

Superhero sequels can be a handful. With ‘Hancock,’ we already achieved a background story, a love story and even the origin of the superhero. ‘Hancock 2’ would be difficult in terms of which path to take the story down. The film could be an amazing sequel, yet could crash and burn if not carefully developed. It will be interesting to see where the character may end up.
