Director John Lasseter honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

On Nov. 1, John Lasseter received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Lasseter is best known for his work with Pixar animated movies, making his directorial debut with “Toy Story,” the first full-length computer animated film.

Lasseter is currently the Chief Creative Officer for Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios. He’s also Principal Creative Advisor for Walt Disney Imagineering, part of the creative team responsible for developing theme-park attractions.

The occasion was emceed by Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Leron Gubler, with special guest speaker, actress Bonnie Hunt, who provides the voice of Sally Hunt in “Cars.”

In his speech, Lasseter called the star "the greatest honor you could give me." He thanked his family, colleagues and Pixar Animation Studios President Ed Catmull, and also acknowledged the contributions of the late Steve Jobs.

"Without Steve, Pixar wouldn't exist. These films wouldn't exist. I honor him," the L.A. Times reports Lasseter as saying.

Attending the event were celebrities who enjoy a connection to Lasseter and Pixar films: John Ratzenberger (whose voice talents are used in all Pixar feature-length films), Owen Wilson (“Cars” movies), Emily Mortimer (“Cars 2”), Patton Oswalt (“Ratatouille”), Don Rickles (“Toy Story” movies), Cheech Marin (“Cars”) and Randy Newman (composer for several Pixar films). Singer Brad Paisley, who has two songs on  “Cars 2,” performed at the ceremony.

Several Disney and Pixar executives were also present, including Catmull, Studio Chairman Rich Ross, Studio President Alan Bergman, Production President Sean Bailey and Disney and Pixar General Manager Jim Morris.

Given his long history with animation, it’s particularly fitting that Lasseter’s Hollywood star is located in front of the historic El Capitan Theatre, which runs Disney and Pixar films.

Lasseter’s star is the 2,453rd on the walk. Its addition provides yet another destination on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Disney fans.
