Atlanta Angelina Jolie fans, the model, actress, writer and now director Angelina Jolie has reportedly received threats over her controversial directorial film debut about the war in Bosnia, entitled In the Land of Blood and Honey.
Thereport created for newspaper Guardian, states that Jolie and several of her film’s cast members have received online threats following the premier of the film to some 5000 people in Sarajevo.
Bosnians feel that they are being presented in an unfavorable light over the religious conflict between the Muslims and the Christians of Serbia and Bosnia, in particular the war that occurred over 20 years ago.
Jolie had only just received her Award of Peace at on February 13 at the Cinema for Peace Gala during the Berlin International Film Festival. The film then premiered before 5000 people in Sarajevo on Tuesday night.
The result for such acknowledgement is that Jolie and several of her film team have received several death threats, to which Jolie has added that “there were things sent to” her and “things posted online.”
In her interview with the Guardian in Sarajevo, Jolie continued to say that the cast had never complained to her about such threats but she’d heard through others that the threats were taking place.
Among the physical “threats” included one of the cast members having their car windows smashed in as well as another person had their phone hacked. Emails were also received from those targeted saying that they had been “hurt.”
Jolie admits that such statements as well as physical threats upon their person and property were intimidating and that she had advised those involved in her movie (of multiple ethnicities, not just Serbians apparently) to leave the region where they were continuing to be targeted but to the best of her knowledge none have heeded and followed through with her advice.
According to the Guardian, Angelina Jolie has decided that she will not be attending the film’s premiere in the Serbian capital of Belgrade, saying her decision was not forced by the continuing threats.
More interestingly, Jolie feels that her film may be used as a “tool” in an election year to “try to incite aggression and violence.”
The film In the Land of Blood and Honey is Jolie’s first full-length feature film though her directorial debut was a 2007 documentary entitled A Place in Time, starring Angelina Jolie herself, Anne Hathaway, and an international cast including Hazel Armenante and Nicole Barré.
