Aged at least twelve years in oak barrels, this premium aged rum displays amber copper color, rich viscosity and delicate legs. The aromas of vanilla, citrus and sweet caramel are accented with spice. This medium to heavy bodied spirit offers a warm and creamy bouquet of vanilla, brown spices and cream soda with an easy, long lasting semi-sweet finish.
The blend is 80% heavy pot still rum and 20% column still rum, created in Venezuela by Destilerias Unidas. After maturing in small white oak barrels, the rums are blended expertly to create a complex, intriguing profile that plays well neat in a snifter after dinner, on the rocks with a slice or orange or in cocktails that benefit from a rich and flavorful spirit.
Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva earned a Gold Award at the RumXP International Tasting Competition at the Miami Rum Renaissance Festival.
The distillery was built in the 1950s by Seagram. This sophisticated operation, employing more than 400 people in the small town of La Miel (the honey) makes whiskey, gin, liqueurs and a wide range of other alcoholic beverages, including Smirnoff Ice.
The bottle features a portrait of Mr. Don Juancho Nieto Melendez of Hacienda Botucal, a legendary figure in the history of Venezuela. Traveling the world and collecting the finest liquors, Mr. Melendez amassed a notable collection of premium spirits. His passion included understanding and appreciating the methods and techniques of the great masters of distillation. He delighted in sharing his knowledge and his exquisite collection of fine liquors with friends and associates. His "Diplomat's Collection" and his expertise influenced many others in their appreciation of top shelf spirits.
