Diplomatic Immunity - A Devotion

I Peter 2:10-11 (NLT)
“Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy;
now you have received God’s mercy.” Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.

Diplomatic immunity is the privilege of exemption from certain taxes and laws granted ambassadors. It was agreed upon as an international law to maintain relationships between countries for the protection and wellbeing of their people. These individuals are residents of their country of origin and subject to the laws of that government even reaching beyond homeland borders. As “temporary residents” of the land to which they travel, they have not given up permanent residency but remain foreigners. It may seem unfair when diplomats act contrary to the rules of their placement but enjoy their freedom. Welcome to the world of diplomacy! Diplomacy is the art of conducting relationships for gain without conflict. You are an ambassador or diplomat of Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God. By claiming to be a believer and/or Christian, you have named Heaven as your place of residency and are subject to its principles even when abroad. This world is completely opposite in nature to Heaven. As foreigners or temporary residents who spend a lot of time here, it is easy to fall into the law of the land and forget our origin of rebirth. Born into sin, humanity lost its identity as Children of God. But through the Blood of Jesus Christ, people are able to regain access to God and claim ownership once again of the Kingdom of God including the inheritance stored away for His Children. Diplomatic immunity is only extended to foreigners and temporary residents but those who chose to be in this world AND OF this world no longer are members of the Heavenly elite but just an ordinary person with no future.

Deuteronomy 7:6 (NLT)
For you are a holy people, who belong to the LORD your God. Of all the people on earth, the LORD your God has chosen you to be his own special treasure.

You have been chosen of God as His Own Holy People. He has adopted you and called you His Child and invites you to share an unbelievable, unfathomable inheritance of blessing and favor as you become an owner in the Kingdom of God. Problem is most believers have no idea what God has promised them much less provided for them. They do not know their Father or the vastness of His Kingdom. His Power and Authority is greater than any other government. He calls us His Own Special Treasure implying our great value and worth to the Father, yet we choose to live as beggars in this world. Begging for God’s Blessing and selling our souls to the enemy just to get by, the Lord did not die for you to live this way. It is time to change your residency status and claim diplomatic immunity as we journey through this life to Eternity. It requires using the measure of faith that has been provided by God to establish deep roots in Heaven claiming our residency and allegiance to Jesus Christ who is King of Kings and Lord of Lords then living as residents of such a wonderful place. You are God’s Property!

Leviticus 25:23, 28 (NLT)
“The land must never be sold on a permanent basis, for the land belongs to me. You are only foreigners and tenant farmers working for me.”

“But if the original owner cannot afford to buy back the land, it will remain with the new owner until the next Year of Jubilee. In the jubilee year, the land must be returned to the original owners so they can return to their family land.”

In many countries, foreigners are not permitted to own land it is available only to residents. Everything God has promised you is protected by the “Year of Jubilee.” Essentially if a person sold land in the Old Testament in the Year of Jubilee they were given the opportunity to buy it back. If they could not do so, the next time Jubilee came around it must be returned to the family. God sent people to the earth. We belonged to God freely but chose to give our life to sin. Jesus came to establish redemption for mankind – God’s Property. He accomplished that on the Cross and so much more. Now man has the ability to return to God’s House and be His People once more. In this life we struggle to be redeemed in that our freedom entitles us to make the choice whether we return to the Kingdom of God or the darkness of this world. Jesus will come again and those who have called on His Name and chosen residency in Heaven by faith will be redeemed. They will enter the Kingdom of God once and for all. It is important that we establish residency and ownership of what God has given us and our inheritance in Jesus Christ before judgment. It will require a change of lifestyle as we transition from the law of the land to answer the call of God to live in accordance with the Law of God.

Matthew 25:24-40 (NLT)
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’ “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’”

There will be a separation of kingdoms one day when those who are residents of the Kingdom of God will be invited to enter into their heritance once and for all. There will only be two sides - good and evil. Though in life we are faced with many opportunities and choices, in the end you are in rightstanding with God or not. We are to live like a king in this world who told his earthly parents, “And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” (Luke 2:49) Jesus Christ was a true diplomat. Are you an ambassador of Heaven today or living as a resident of this world? It is very important to decide who you are and where you are living before Jesus comes back. Then it will be too late to choose! Establish residency in Heaven right now, today and do not look back.

I Corinthians 15:49-51 (NLT)
Just as we are now like the earthly man, we will someday be like the heavenly man. What I am saying, dear brothers and sisters, is that our physical bodies cannot inherit the Kingdom of God. These dying bodies cannot inherit what will last forever. But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed!

Temporary people get temporary things so the things of this world will pass away just as our physical body deteriorates with time. However, those who transition allegiance from earth to Heaven will become Eternal Beings. This is a work in progress that begins now, not after Jesus comes. You do not only live once, but those who accept Jesus Christ as Lord will live forever therefore what you do on a daily basis impacts forever. With this in mind, we must strive to live as according to the Law of God not man’s way of doing things and being right. “When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:19-21) Yikes, I was mad yesterday…maybe a little envious, too. It says that living that sort of life means I will not inherit Heaven! Those who follow the rules of our sinful nature never attempting to sever all ties with sin will not, I repeat, WILL NOT inherit the Kingdom of God. Before you say the word “grace” please understand to live under the grace provision of our covenant with God is not an excuse to sin but to excuse the times we strive for rightstanding with God and fail. To willfully commit sin and then call for grace is terrible misuse of the Blood of Jesus Christ and an insult to His Sacrifice and makes the Lord vomit. (Revelation 3:16) Entrance into the Kingdom of God requires allegiance to the Will and Way of God! The Word of God says that “temporary residents” those people who run back and forth between darkness and light, as well as “hired servants” those who are after God’s Hand but not His Heart “may not eat”. You cannot have the things of Heaven without establishing residency there!

Hebrews 11:1 (AMP)
Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].

You obtain residency in Heaven by faith. It is the only way to produce confident hope in the reality of His Kingdom. It is a coming Kingdom that although you can benefit from it will never fully receive your inheritance from until Jesus returns. We are given a measure of faith to secure this inheritance that is hidden in your heart. (Romans 12:3) By taking this little bit of faith and doing something with it, we tell God that we are interested in becoming His People once again. So we take that little “seed” of faith and plant it in our heart, cultivating it and nurturing it as it grows into deep roots in the Kingdom of God by faith producing confident hope in what is to come that releases our hold on here and now. (Colossians 2:7) Then and only then are the Keys to the Kingdom handed over to us so that we can bind things on the earth and in Heaven. (Matthew 16:19) We begin to walk in confidence even though we are only temporary residents here. We become nomads of faith carrying the Gospel around the world until Jesus comes or we meet Him face-to-face. Then and only then do we establish residency and gain the incorruptible inheritance of God through Jesus Christ. This world has nothing for me any longer as I wait for His Coming.

Hebrews 11:13 (AMP)
“These people all died controlled and sustained by their faith, but not having received the tangible fulfillment of [God’s] promises, only having seen it and greeted it from a great distance by faith, and all the while acknowledging and confessing that they were strangers and temporary residents and exiles upon the earth.”

It is time for believers to become strangers to the things of this world and fully invested in the Kingdom of God by faith. Diplomatic immunity is a privileged status designed for foreigners. You cannot expect this if you live in this world and of it. Only those who choose to live for God as residents of His Kingdom and ambassadors to this world will ever experience Heaven on earth!

Matthew 6:33 (AMP)
But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.
