According to the University of Calgary Dinos website, the University of Calgary Dinos have advanced to the semi-finals of the Canadian Interunversity Sport Women's Basketball Championship on Saturday.
In Friday's quarterfinal game at Regina, Saskatchewan, point guard Kristie Sheils came off the bench for the Dinos after not being in the starting lineup and scored 14 points in a 59-51 win over the University of Carleton.
Sheils scored 12 of her 14 points from four three-pointers. Ashley Hirons of Melbourne, Australia and Alex Cole of Calgary were also in double digits with 12 and 11 points respectively.
With the strong play by Shelis and Hirons Friday you can really see the international impact in the Dinos' basketball program at the moment. Head coach Damian Jennings, who is originally from Wales, and Athletics Director Ron Wuotila, who has extensive experience with UK Sport, has a lot to do with this trend.
The Dinos will next play the University of Windsor in one semi-final today with the other semi-final being the Unversity of St. Mary's versus the University of Regina.
