According to the University of Calgary Dinos assistant athletic director Ben Matchett, the University of Calgary Dinos have clinched first place in the Canada West standings with a 24-12 win over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Friday evening in Saskatoon.
With the win, the Dinos also clinch home field advantage throughout the Canada West playoffs. The Dinos had outstanding games from quarterback Andrew Buckley of Calgary, running back Mercer Timmis and wide receiver Rashaun Simonise. Buckley had 355 yards passing, Timmis had 178 yards rushing and Simonise had 145 yards receiving.
The Dinos special teams were also huge as they blocked three Huskies' kicks (two field goals and a punt), while linebacker Tanner Doll had two fumble recoveries.
With the win, the Dinos are a perfect 6-0 this season. They get a much deserved bye next weekend to celebrate Thanksgiving, before returning home to play the University of Regina and the University of British Columbia the final two Fridays in October at McMahon Stadium.
