Dinos beat WolfPack in CIS women's basketball Friday

According to www.godinos.com, the University of Calgary Dinos defeated the University of Thompson Rivers WolfPack 71-58 in game one of their best of three series in the Canada West women's quaterfinal at Calgary's Jack Simpson Gymnasium Friday night.

Guard Ashley Hirons of Melbourne, Australia led the Dinos with 20 points.

Dinos' guard Megan Schaufele of Delta, British Columbia (15 points), forward Jessica Franz of Surrey, British Columbia (13 points) and guard Tamara Jarrett of Calgary (11 points) were also in double digits.

The Dinos are favoured one of a possible five teams from the Canada West Conference to qualify for the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Women's Basketball Final 8 from March 15-17 in Regina, Saskatchewan.

The other results in the Canada West women's basketball playoffs Friday had the University of Regina defeat the University of Victoria 70-57 and the University of Alberta defeat the University of British Columbia 66-62.

Game two of the Dinos/WolfPack series will go Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
