Dinos beat Thunderbirds 3-1 Friday night

The University of Calgary Dinos won their opening playoff game this season in Canadian Interuniversity Sport men's hockey action Friday night at the Max Bell Centre.

Dinos captain Brock Nixon of Russell, Manitoba scored twice, including the game winning goal at 7:06 of the second period, as the Dinos defeated the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds 3-1 in game one of their best of three series in the Canada West Conference quarterfinals.

Dustin Butler of High River, Alberta made 22 saves for the Dinos in their victory. Butler had a great Western Hockey League career with the Portland Winterhawks, Kamloops Blazers and Prince Albert Raiders from 2003-2008 before joining the Dinos for the 2008-09 season.

According to www.godinos.com , the Dinos had to move their playoff games last night and tonight from Father David Bauer Arena to Max Bell Centre because of the Winsport Invitational Figure Skating Competition. If the Thunderbirds beat the Dinos tonight, the third and deciding game of the series will return to Father David Bauer Arena on Sunday night.
