The University of Calgary Dinos took a 1-0 lead over the University of Alberta Pandas in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport's Canada West women's hockey semi-finals Friday night with a 3-2 win in triple overtime at Calgary's Father David Bauer Arena.
According to the University of Calgary Dinos website, captain Tanya Morgan of Wembley, Alberta scored at 3:19 of triple overtime from Erin Davidson.
Olympic gold medallist Hayley Wickenheiser led the Dinos in scoring with two assists. Calaine Inglis and Stephanie Zvonkovic were each a +3.
Trailing 2-1 to the Pandas, Iya Gavrilova tied the game with 7:54 left in the third period to force overtime. The Dinos and Pandas will once again play Saturday night in Calgary in game two of the best of three series.
On the men's side, the University of Alberta Golden Bears shut out the University of Calgary Dinos 4-0 in game one of the Canada West hockey semi-finals. Johnny Lazo scored twice and Kurtis Mucha made 26 saves for the shutout.
