According to the University of Calgary Dinos website on Friday, the University of Calgary Dinos are one win away from advancing to the Canada West final in men's hockey.

Last night at Calgary's Father David Bauer arena, the Dinos, who are ranked fourth in Canada, defeated the University of Manitoba Bisons 5-1 to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three semi-final series. Defenseman Giffen Nyren led the Dinos with two goals and one assist.

Three other Dinos had multi-point games. Walker Wintoneak had a goal and an assist, while Dylan Walchuk and Cory Pritz had two assists each.

The Bisons advanced to play the Dinos after defeating Calgary's Mount Royal University two games to one in the Canada West quarterfinals last weekend.

In the other semi-final, the University of Alberta Golden Bears defeated the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds 5-1 to take a 1-0 lead.

The University of Calgary Dinos' women's basketball team meanwhile were eliminated from the Canada West playoffs after losing 60-48 to Fraser Valley in the quarterfinals on Friday. The women's basketball team followed the same fate as the women's hockey team who lost to the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds in the Canada West quarterfinals two weeks ago.

The University of Calgary Dinos' women's volleyball team and men's basketball team failed to make the Canada West playoffs this year.
