Names of establishments: Eatonville and Busboys and Poets

Locales: Eatonville, 2121 14th Street NW, Washington, DC and  Busboys and Poets 2021 14th Street NW, Washington, DC

Synopsis and Critique: Washington, DC, is a popular spot for tourists, ‘conferencing’, and politics. It is also a spot for some great cuisine. The literary crowd may find that the restaurant Eatonville serves as a great place for Soul Food that memorializes the famed Harlem Renaissance writer Zora Neale Hurston. Zora Neale Hurston, a graduate of Howard University and Barnard College (Columbia University), was an anthropologist and folklorist. Yet, she is embraced by us all for her writings. Her short stories, plays, essays and her famed novel Their Eyes Were Watching God brought her to the international literary stage. The restaurant Eatonville immortalizes the writer through wall canvases which colorfully depict her life and career. But, to be honest…it’s the cooking that brings you in. Savor the fried chicken, the gumbo, and the macaroni and cheese. And you must get a few of those corn muffins with real corn implanted inside too! Take a peek at the menu and salivate:

During my brief stay in Washington, DC, this was a nice retreat after a day of scholarly exchange. You might find Eatonville to be one of the culinary landmarks too. Are you a Langston Hughes fan too? Well, Washington, DC, has a restaurant venue for you across from Eatonville. It’s called Busboys and Poets too! You can obtain information at:
