Dinner and dancing for Valentine's Day, part one: Arthur Murray dance lessons (Photos)

Valentine's Day is fast approaching, and even when it's not a holiday, you might be scrambling for a good date night idea. Have you ever considered the traditional "dinner and dancing" routine?

I had the chance to experience both on a special High Octane Date Night, with dancing at the Arthur Murray studio in Orlando and dinner at Fogo de Chao on International Drive. That actually works out quite nicely, since you burn off calories dancing at Arthur Murray so you don't have to feel quite as bad about the never ending meal at Fogo de Chao.

Our intrepid group of High Octane Daters met at the Arthur Murray studio on Conroy Winderemere Road, in the Universal Orlando Resort vicinity. The upstairs studio is spacious, with a large dance floor and plenty of mirrors so you can see just how well you're doing.

The idea of taking dance lessons might sound intimidating for those with two left feet, but the instructors at Arthur Murray make it fun. The High Octane Date Night experience rolled a lot into the evening. You can see some scenes in the slideshow at the top of this article.

First the instructors divided the couples into male and female groups to learn the steps individually. Then everyone returned to their partners to dance in sync. The instructors gave pointers and assistance as needed and soon had everyone looking quite competent. Then they shook things up a bit by having the group switch partners, which they pointed out is a necessary skill so you learn how to dance with others of different heights.

If your partner is a "Dancing With the Stars" fan or you just want to try something completely different. Arthur Murray is a fun date night. You'll spend close time together and pick up a new skill. You can take a single lesson if you wish or sign up for multiple sessions if you're more serious about learning dance moves. Don't b afraid to try it, even if you can't dance a step. The atmosphere is very beginner-friendly.

After the dancing, it was time to fuel up with a hearty dinner at a perfect date night restaurant. Continue on to part two for dinner at Fogo de Chao.
