“The 2011 Dinner and Bikes Tour” comes to Tucson in September. Join in the fun of great eating and an easy ride sponsored by the LIVING STREETS ALLIANCE (LSA) , BICAS (BICYCLE INTER-COMMUNITY ART and SALVAGE) and Tucson Velo.com.
Save the date for an evening of Dinner and Bikes with Portland Bicycle Advocate Elly Blue, Thursday September 15, 2011, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Mercado San Agustín, 100 S. Avenida del Convento. The evening includes delicious food, inspirational bike stories, and short films.
This free and open to the public event showcases two of Portland’s most popular exports: gourmet vegan cuisine and bicycle advocacy!
Elly Blue refers to herself as, "a writer, entrepreneur, and bike funnist living in Portland, Oregon". As a writer for Grist, Bikeportland.org, and on her own blog and zine Taking The Lane, she delves into topics of bicycling and gender, bicycling and the economy, and car-free living. She is also a partner in a new business endeavor called PDX by Bike, a resource guide which helps visitors to Portland travel the city by bicycle.
The 2011 Dinner and Bikes Tour is an evening of gourmet vegan food and bicycle inspiration. The goal is to create an interactive, engaging event that brings together people with diverse interests that catalyzes new thinking and action around food and transportation.
Joining Blue will be Joshua Ploeg, a traveling vegan chef, who can improvise climactic culinary masterpieces on two hours’ notice for you and your date and perhaps also your entire circus troupe. His book In Search of the Lost Taste is a Microcosm smash hit. He has several cookzines, including the popular Fire and Ice and a zine about raw foods.
At this event, you'll fill up your plate, find a seat, and enjoy new and amazing flavor combinations while vegan chef Ploeg describes the meal and ingredients and tells his traveling stories. (Please remember to bring your own plate and utensils to help cut down on waste.)
Elly Blue provides an interactive primer on the economics of bicycle transportation, complete with inspiring photos and jaw-dropping statistics. Then Joe Biel will take the stage with a different selection each night of his very-short films that explore different aspects of Portland, Oregon’s bicycle activism and culture.

Participants can also peruse Porland's mobile book and zine shop, featuring transportation and food related titles.
