On Oct. 21, an Elliott Smith tribute show will take place at Brooklyn's Glasslands to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the singer/songwriter's death. The beloved musician took his own life 10 years ago and left behind an emotive musical legacy that has impacted many people across the globe.
According to Glasslands' website, the lineup inlcludes DIIV's Zachary Cole Smith performing with Sky Ferreira, Cat Power, Yoni Wolf of WHY?, the Low Anthem, Here We Go Magic's Luke Temple, Rewards' Aaron Pfenning, Marissa Nadler, Speedy Ortiz's Sadie Dupuis, Adam Schatz of Landlady/Man Man/Father Figures, the Perrenials, and Tereu Tereu. The artists will be playing songs from Smith's prolific musical career. With so many of Elliott Smith's brilliantly introspective compositions to choose from, the tribute show should definitely be an inspiring and moving musical experience.
Proceeds from the show will support the Elliott Smith Memorial Fund. The fund will use those proceeds to benefit the nonprofits Outside In, a Portland-based organization that helps homeless youth, and Free Arts for Abused Children, which offers art programs for children who've experienced abuse, poverty, and homelessness. Having a relatively troubled life himself, these were all issues that Smith's family confirms he was vocally passionate about.
Additional fundraising efforts are happening at IndieGogo with opportunities for rewards. To celebrate the impact of this musical icon and contribute to a great cause, you can purchase tickets through Ticketfly.
