A Digital Journal article dated yesterday informed online readers that the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) is winning after the first round of an online contest for an ad spot during Super Bowl XLVIII sponsored by Intuit. NORML, a non-profit organization with a small staff and a limited budget, aims to bring its message to millions of sports fans next year.
At the time that the Digital Journal article was written, NORML's ad had received the highest number of votes which put their proposed ad into round two of the contest. NORML communications director Erik Altieri says that the organization would greatly benefit from this contest just the same as any of the other small business entries. He also says that NORML is looking to broadcast a national message that would bring light to an issue that directly and adversely impacts thousands in the United States every year.
"With the last election and with the recent announcement from the attorney general in Washington DC, we are beautifully positioned to make sure a responsible, adult American citizen is never again arrested for enjoying the beauties of recreational marijuana," NORML wrote in its contest entry. Some of these beauties include the health benefits of cannabis.
Ultimately, Intuit will decide if it will produce the winning ad and Fox, the Super Bowl's broadcaster, will decide whether or not to air it. See: http://digitaljournal.com/article/359296#ixzz2gNmE0awl
