Digital Detox Day this weekend

Hey, Palm Springs area parents! March 1st through March 2nd, 2013 is the National Day of Unplugging. There's no denying that our kids could probably use some downtime off the computer, the gaming system, the iPod and the e-reader. Here are some fun things to do without electronics in tow.

Send the kids outdoors to pull weeds. Thanks to the recent rains we've been getting, lots of weeds have started sprouting up in the yard. Give the kids a bucket, a pair of gloves and send them outside for some fresh air and some weed pulling. Just make sure they watch out for those pesky cactus needles.

Dust off a cookbook on top of the fridge and have the kids flip through to find a couple recipes they want to try their hand at making. This activity is great for kids in the kitchen for the first time and for those with a little more experience under their belt.
