Eating in moderate quantity and with wisdom means to refrain from purging, binging, eating in response to cravings, or any other unhealthful known eating method. None of these eating disorders help a person have a happy life. Those who end up with chronic eating disorders are usually extremely negative and unhappy. Unhealthful eating habits lead to health problems like obesity and should be avoided if diligently working deliberately toward a happy lifestyle.

Eating healthy includes utilizing proper preparation methods. One should make certain food items that are known for being unhealthful if eaten raw, like pork and beef, need to be thoroughly cooked for the prevention of Trichinosis. Washing thoroughly food items that come from the ground like lettuce, potatoes and turnips is also advantageous for a healthier body and prevents people from obtaining Salmonella. If uncertain about how to prepare a food item, consult a cookbook. Many cookbooks have food preparation guidelines as well as delicious food recipes.

Other healthful measures are keeping abreast regarding news worthy food warnings and follow them, including not purchasing recalled food products from the food distributors listed on the news or Federal Drug and Administration (FDA) website. This prevents becoming severely ill from food poisoning. Sometimes being a victim from food poisoning can lead to major health issues during the Senior Citizen years. Watching out for one’s food health is a form of implementing wisdom and can lead to promoting a healthful longevity.

Consulting a nutritionist, dietitian and one's physician about dietary concerns is another excellent alternative for obtaining the latest information regarding healthy eating habits. In Oklahoma City, Oklahoma there are health food stores that have nutritionists available who can advise about devising a healthful weekly menu. Physicians often times refer patients with special dietary concerns to dietitians who teach healthful ways to eat and which foods are appropriate or to avoid. There are excellent resource health books, including those authored by Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo. These explain scientifically and medically the importance of a balanced diet with reasonable dietary recommendations. Oklahoman health food stores and bookstores have a large variety of health books regarding eating healthy and maintaining proper body weight.

The Oklahoma City-County Health Department has available a Total Wellness program with classes given in Oklahoma City for Oklahoma County residents. This program includes dietary recommendations for the avoidance of diabetes and a consultation with a dietitian. For those who live in the Oklahoma County this is something worthy of attending since diabetes is a great concern for many Oklahomans. Enjoy the day!
