An interesting article surfaced in the T. Colin Campbell June Newsletter. Whitney Campbell, a Health and Wellness major at UNC Asheville, authored an account of how diet and vaccines and autism are linked.
Here are her words: "The MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) vaccine, given to children around age 3, is known to cause damage to the small intestine in some cases, also called "leaky gut." The vaccine may also inhibit the enzyme required to break down the peptides (or proteins) in the gluten and casein. Therefore, the incompletely digested casein and gluten pertides travel through the now permeable gut and into the bloodstream (whereas in most people the peptides are fully broken down and excreted as waste). These peptides then travel through the bloodstream and attach to opiate receptors in the brain. In more severe cases, the behavior of autistic children has even been compared to the behavior of those hallucinating on LSD."
While extremely controversial, the link can't be ignored. Some children have seen vast improvement -- as in the case of Karyn Seroussi's son -- with the elimination of gluten and dairy from the diet. Read Seroussi's book and detailed account of her son's remarkable recovery.
Dairy, specifically casein which makes up 87% of the protein in milk, has long been linked with cancer and type 1 diabetes. As in the case of cancer, dairy turns cancer on like a switch. Likewise, cancer cells regress in the absence of dairy. Eliminating dairy and gluten from the diet is an inexpensive, non-invasive, and non-pharacological therapy that can bring big benefits.
