Diesel engines have always been the most efficient when it comes to adding power into the miles per gallon mix. Volkswagen, which has produced one of the only production diesel engines in the sedan market, has announced marked improvement to both fuel efficiency and emissions recuction. Now, Chevrolet and Mazda have added clean diesel technology to their lineups coming in 2014. Chevrolet's Cruze is adding a 2.0l turbocharged engine designed in Italy, built in Germany, and Installed in Ohio to their lineup. Mazda is introducing a diesel addition to their SKYACTIV technology engines boosting their diesel efficiency by 20% a rather impressive feat when you compare it to their gasoline engines boasting a industry leading 38 mpg in a mid-sized sedan. However the most interesting improvement is Volkswagen's concept vehicle, the Cross Blue Concept. The new crossover SUV includes North America's first diesel electric hybrid. They didn't say what type of mileage they were expecting, but one could only imagine the high mpg diesel engine mixed with the high mpg hybrid designs. The small auto market seems to look greener and greener not only environmentally speaking, but financially speaking as well.
