Diesel sent their spring and summer 2012 collection down the Berlin Fashion Week runway earlier today and it showed a stark move away from the bright colors the fashion world has been seeing for the last couple of years. The show was filled with dark and light neutrals, classic black and white ensembles, safari inspiration, chambray, and pops of red. Diesel’s handbag collection featured two distinct versions of handbags which signal a continuation of two important handbag trends from last year; the casual hobo and the daytime clutch.
Diesel’s spring collection looked more like a warm weather version of what was seen on many of the fall 2011 runways as opposed to the light and bright collections designers put forth for spring 2011. While 2011 gave Fashionistas a world of boho-chic, rocker chic, florals, bold colors and flowing fabrics, the collections in Berlin have been more subdued and structured; with Diesel showing the epitome of the trends coming out of fashion week.
Diesel paired slouchy, casual hobo handbags with safari colors and inspired styles. The looks featured added pops of red or black/white patterns. The hobo handbags featured bucket bag details with a visible drawstring and bottom zipper for added storage space. Diesel gave the hobo bags a thick strap which models carried by hand down the runway, although the bag could also be carried on the forearm. There was also tote version of the hobo handbag which offered two top handles rather than the traditional single strap.
The safari look was dominant on the Diesel runway and the collection featured looks which were either weekend casual or dressy casual. The more dressy casual looks such as safari-style dresses were paired with structured daytime clutches, open toe booties and floppy hats. The daytime clutches were much smaller than what was shown for fall 2011; a return to the smaller clutch handbag fans saw on the spring 2011 runways. Diesel used a combination of neutral solid colors as well as ombre finishes.
The safari look is good news to Fashionistas who loved the trend in fall 2010 and stocked up on several items. The pieces from fall 2010 can be saved and pulled back out of the closet for spring 2012. The ombre look has been slowly creeping back into fashion since 2009 and seems to be making a quiet impact for 2012. An ombre clutch or handbag may just be the perfect investment for spring 2012.
