It’s a “Good Day to Die Hard” at the box office where Bruce Willis’ return as John McClane topped the box office over the weekend, according to a Feb. 17 Entertainment Weekly report. The thriller brought in $25 million, which is less than was expected for Fox’s $92 million movie.
Also starring Jai Courtney, the movie earned $8.2 million on Feb. 14, its first day of release, and $33.2 million after four days. This is substantially less than “Live Free or Die Hard” did in 2007, starting out with $33.4 million in its three-day opening weekend.
It’s no surprise though, taking into consideration Arnold Schwarznegger and Sylvester Stallone’s movie flops for “The Last Stand” and “Bullet to the Head” respectively. Entertainment Weekly reports that “Arnold Schwarznegger’s $45 million entry The Last Stand has earned just $12 million after five weekends. Sylvester Stallone’s Bullet to the Head, which reportedly cost $55 million, has only earned about $10 million after three.”
The top five movies for the past weekend, include (1) “A Good Day to Die Hard” with $25 million ($33.2 million total), (2) “Safe Haven” with $21.4 million ($30.5 million total), (3) “Identity Thief” with $23.4 million ($70.7 million total), (4) “Escape from Planet Earth” with $16.1 million ($16.1 million total) and (5) “Warm Bodies” $9 million ($50.2 million total).
