If you had ancestors who lived in Lower Richland or if you are a local history buff, you will not want to miss the next Richland County Public Library Family History Workshop. Virginia G. Meynard will discus her new book, "History of Lower Richland County and its early planters" on Monday, July 25th in the RCPL Main Library's Local History Room at 6 pm. This will be an opportunity to discover more about the history of Lower Richland County, and you might be able to glean more information that will help in the search for your own ancestors. The following families are among those who have a long history in Lower Richland County:
Raiford, Pearson, Howell, Hirons, Taylor, Goodwin, Tucker, Hopkins, Weston, Adams, and Singleton.
Many African Americans with these surnames live in the area today. If you are interested in tracing your family history, begin to talk to the oldest living relatives in your family to see what they know. Here are a few other things you can to do get started:
Gather items in your own household such as obituaries, funeral programs, and death certificates.
Using what you know, fill out a Pedigree Chart.
Identify what you want to know about your ancestors.
