Did the oil really dissipate or is it sitting on the ocean floor? (video)

New reports suggest that the surface, skimmable oil that is said to have dissipated may not have disappeared after all. According to reports by the University of Georgia and studies from USF, some of the oil may be sitting on the ocean floor. According to reports by the federal government, 74% of the oil that was on the surface is gone. They say it has been burned off, evaporated, been skimmed, collected or otherwise captured. The reports by UGA and USF challenge these findings and if proved true, can mean a whole new chapter of oil spill recovery will soon be at hand. Where is the remaining 26% of oil?

The remaining oil is found in oil sheen, tar balls and tar patties and washes upon beaches. The new reports suggest that it is also on the ocean floor and it gets worse. The University of Georgia doesn’t believe that the oil on the ocean floor is comprised of the 26% remaining after the said 74% was removed from the Gulf. The University of Georgia says they believe that some of that 74% is on the floor.

"The idea that some 75% of the oil is gone and not a threat to the environment is just absolutely incorrect," says Charles Hopkinson, director of Georgia Sea Grant at UGA.
