On Feb. 10 the 55th annual Grammy Awards were held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Taylor Swift had the honor of being the opening act. It appears she took advantage of this opportunity to diss her recent ex Harry Styles.
We have all anticipated what her next move would be, as history has proved that Taylor has no problem calling out ex-boyfriends in her songs.
Yahoo News reports that the superstar made one of her most pointed barbs in history Sunday night at the 55th annual Grammy Awards, when she took what appeared to be an unmistakable shot at One Direction’s Harry Styles during her opening number.
Swift used her hit “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” to apparently diss her recent ex Styles, by abruptly switching into an exaggerated English accent (Styles is British). “So he calls me up and he’s like ‘Ah still louve you,’” she drawled. “And I’m like 'I’m sorry, I’m busy opening up the Grammys…and we are never getting back together!'” Bam.
While the diss was indirect, it was hard to miss who it was geared towards. Swift’s performance was unusually aggressive, which is not her normal character.
Taylor was dressed in an all white suit and dress coat, the ensemble also included a top hat with white boots. The Grammy nominated singer opened her act on stage with a white circus themed costume.
The show featured an actor playing the part of crushed boyfriend—whom a circus-ringmaster-garbed Swift spun around on a wheel, kicked over, and generally treated fiercely.
This isn’t the first time Swift’s taken the opportunity to publicly diss one of her exes in front of an audience of millions.
At least Styles was spared the embarrassment of being called out by name: In 2009, Swift famously referenced ex Joe Jonas out during an appearance on Saturday Night Live: “Hey Joe. I'm doing real well. I'm hosting SNL” reported Yahoo News.
The last time she performed “WANEGBT” at an awards show it was at the 2012 VMAs. It was a different performance altogether, it appeared to be drama free, with a completely different wardrobe and theme. Of course at the time of the performance, Taylor was wrapped up in a carefree romance with Connor Kennedy. He is the son of the great Robert F. Kennedy Jr. There was no need to diss anyone during this performance.
She only began to date Styles in late fall of 2012. The pair broke up after a brief romance in January 2013. The rumor mill has been at full blast with reasons the pair went their separate ways. The latest rumor, is that the break-up was because Styles was not circumcised has came from Huffington Post.
