Did Katy Perry diss Kim Kardashian's 'plastic surgery' butt?

In a July 30 Rolling Stone interview, Katy Perry offered some commentary on what she saw as society's unhealthy obsession with plastic surgery. The pop star also addressed criticisms that she had been culturally insensitive for featuring dancers on tour who were dressed like mummies with giant padded butts.

As the 29-year-old singer explained, "as far as the mummy thing, I based it on plastic surgery. Look at someone like Kim Kardashian or Ice-T's wife, Coco. Those girls aren't African-American. But it's actually a representation of our culture wanting to be plastic, and that's why there's bandages and it's mummies."

This is not the first time that Perry has been accused of cultural insensitivity. For her 2013 American Music Awards performance, the "Roar" singer wore what appeared to be a cross between a Japanese kimono and a Chinese cheongsam. Critics accused her of racism, and for indiscriminately melding Japanese and Chinese cultural elements together. Wrote one blogger, "Perry, who is apparently a Japanophile, dressed up for her 'Unconditionally' performance, which mixed and matched Japanese and Chinese culture as if it were a Pan-Asian buffet."

Still, the "Firework" singer maintains that her intentions were good, and that she hadn't meant to offend anyone. She also suggested that society had gone too far with the need for political correctness. As she quipped, "I guess I'll just stick to baseball and hot dogs, and that's it. I know that's a quote that's gonna come to f. me in the a., but can't you appreciate a culture? I guess, like, everybody has to stay in their lane? I don't know."

Meanwhile, Kardashian has spent months denying reports that she had gotten plastic surgery to enhance her famous rear end. Back in February, the reality star blasted critics for weight-shaming the recently-pregnant woman. She also argued that tabloids had been unfairly comparing her to pictures that were taken before she had her baby. As she tweeted, "I'm seeing all these nonsense tabloids claiming I have butt implants-injections. Get a life!...Anyone who has had a baby knows how hard it is to lose weight...your body totally changes!"

Back in April, rumors had floated around that Kardashian had become disturbingly obsessed with the size of her booty. According to a Closer (via a Hollywood Life) report, "Kim’s been focusing on her bum a lot lately – it’s becoming almost obsessive. She says the bigger it is, the sexier she feels. But Kim’s obsession is starting to worry her friends – they’re concerned she’ll take things too far. Kim says she wants an eye-popping booty that everyone notices. It’s part of her brand."

Was Katy Perry taking a dig at Kim Kardashian's butt? Does society have an unhealthy fixation on plastic surgery? Did Perry display cultural insensitivity by featuring "big-bootied mummies" on tour and performing in a geisha costume at the AMAs? Or has the political correctness agenda gone too far? Did Kardashian really have plastic surgery to enhance her booty? Has she become too obsessed with the size of her butt? Or are these weight-shaming critics creating a story out of nothing?
