Did Greg Rikaart demean ‘Young and the Restless” fans with tweet?

Michael Muhney fans have been angry since the day they found out the actor had been abruptly terminated from his role as Adam Newman on “The Young and the Restless.” Rumors regarding sexual harassment and misconduct, as well as battles with co-stars have followed the actor, though nothing has been officially confirmed.

Did Greg Rikaart, who portrays Kevin Fisher, take it too far with a tweet on Jan. 26? Fans have already been upset that the cast has seemingly attacked fans via Twitter, but the latest tweet by Rikaart seems to have ignited yet another firestorm.

According to the ratings, “The Young and the Restless” lost nearly 500,000 viewers between Jan. 13 and Jan. 17 compared to the same reporting time in 2013. Rikaart’s tweet seemed to make light of the fact that “Y&R” fans have vowed to stop watching the show after Jan. 30, Muhney’s last airdate. In the tweet, Rikaart seemingly mocks fans, referring “to the six fans who keep insisting that this is their last week watching.” Rikaart promises fans that they will miss out, saying, “Great stuffing coming up. Stick around!”

The loss of nearly 500,000 viewers may or may not be temporary, merely backlash in the week following the rumors regarding Muhney’s termination. However, any loss of viewers should not be taken lightly. Fans are not just upset over Muhney’s firing, they are upset over what seems to be a mass exodus of longtime fan favorites, including Michelle Stafford and Billy Miller, as well as poor writing and disregard for the rich history of “The Young and the Restless.”
