Although far from confirmed, The Sun is reporting that Donna Summer may have developed lung cancer from the dust clouds that billowed throughout the city of New York on September 11th. According to the story, Donna was in New York on that fateful day, and like many New Yorkers and first responders, breathed in the asbestos, lead, and mercury that filled the air.
Like so many other Americans, the events of 9/11 understandably freaked out Summer, turning her into a recluse.
“I was really freaked out by the horrific experiences of that day,” said Donna of the 9/11 tragedy, as quoted by The Sun.
“I couldn’t go out, I didn’t want to talk to anybody. I had to keep the blinds down and stay in my bedroom. I went to church and light came back into my soul. That heaviness was gone.”
Donna Summer is a Grammy award-winning artist who had a bunch of hits over the course of her career, including “Love to Love You, Baby” and “Hot Stuff.”
