The outspoken leader of the Catholic League has made a statement about Obama’s plan that will force Catholic schools, hospitals and charities to buy birth control pills, abortion-producing drugs and sterilization coverage for their employees.
How this issue became a “Catholic” issue is curious to most folks who have strong views on this kind of activity, regardless if they are Catholic, a different denomination or even an atheist. Catholics are not in this fight alone. Evangelical Christians have the same values when it comes to abortion and the use of medications such as the morning after pill.
CBSNewYork reports that Bill Donohue said in an interview that;
“Never before, unprecedented in American history, for the federal government to line up against the Roman Catholic Church”.
The news articles and TV News spots on this issue are many. The CBSNewYork article also said that;
“Archbishop Timothy Dolan has spoken out against the law and priests around the country have mobilized, reading letters from the pulpit. Donohue said Catholic officials will stop at nothing to put a stop to it.”
However, Donohue went on to say that;
“This is going to be fought out with lawsuits, with court decisions, and, dare I say it, maybe even in the streets”.
We know the battle for religious freedoms has been ongoing for decades, but is this what it will come to. Did Donohue really intend to use his words to stimulate interest, or to stimulate violence in the streets of America?
The Bible tells us of many ways that government will attempt to run our lives, spy on un and even threaten us with retaliation if we don’t comply with their laws and/or wishes.
Regardless, this issue is not simply a Catholic issue, it is an issue that is near and dear to the hearts of all true Christians, not just Catholics!
