A reader emailed a strong reaction to my article titled: San Francisco's fate if the U.S. and China go to war, which you can read by clicking on this link. He is an American from Montana and he works for an American company overseas:
Free trade is a policy by which a government does not discriminate against imports or interfere with exports by applying tariffs (to imports) or subsidies (to exports) or quotas. (yes I cut and pasted that but I could not have said it better myself).
In theory it's a good thing, but not many foreign countries want our products yet American companies can't get enough of foreign cheap stuff.
The only reason China has achieved such economic and thus military power is because of the free trade policies of the US government, which is the cause of the current situation that you allude to in your article. I wish people would write more articles that have to do with reversing the cause (if not too late), rather than creating fear and paranoia due to the effect.
The sad part is that our country was a great country with amazing natural resources, ingenuity, etc, but government policies have squashed the American dream....
