Today Dicks Sporting Goods Inc announced grand openings in Findlay, Ohio; Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Des Moines, Iowa and Palm Desert, California. Each grand store opening is expected to last all weekend with special appearances on Sunday. Former major Cleveland Indians pitcher and pitcher of the 10th perfect game in MLB history in 1981 Len Barker is appearing at the Ohio opening; former Minnesota Twins pitcher and World Series MVP Jack Morris will be appearing in South Dakota; current Iowa State Men's Basketball Head Coach Fred Hoiberg will be at the Iowa opening; and Los Angeles Dodger Steve Garvey “Mr. Clean” is appearing in the California opening.
This brings the total announcements in October for grand openings of Dicks Sporting Goods to 22 and specialty stores to 1 as the opening of a new field and stream store was announced. Field and Stream is openings its second location in Crescent Springs, Kentucky on November 1, 2013. A musical guest is scheduled before the ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, but they have yet to be released. The store will be opened in the Buttermilk Town Center.
Dicks Sporting Goods continues the interactive jersey report. The overall top five jerseys today are #1 Peyton Manning of the Denver Broncos, #2 Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts, #3 Robert Griffin III (RG3) of the Washington Redskins, #4 Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks and #5 Tom Brady of the New England Patriots.
Dicks Sporting Goods (NYSE:DKS) currently is averaging a market stock price of 49.81 for the year with approximately eight weeks remaining while the 12 month average for last year was 47.97. The current market price for the fourth is averaging 52.36. It appears Dicks Sporting Goods will perform better in the fourth quarter of this year in comparison to the fourth quarter of last year which yielded an average market price of 49.87.
