This year cold temps did see some folks going elsewhere, however, sunshine, no wind and no snow (despite the weather forecast) helped a lot for those who did come out.

The Farmer’s Market had a special day, the last of the year. The normal sunshades were outfitted with added walls and heaters. Great opportunity to stock up on homemade goodies to add to parties’ menus and for unique gifts.

Strolling carolers from various groups, such as churches, Purdue Alumni Men’s Choir and the Bach Chorale singers serenaded window shoppers, crafters and store workers.

Vendors hosted crafters demonstrating the older arts in their store fronts.

Horse drawn carriages, both single family and a larger, seated, wagon clip-clopped their way up and down Main St.

Dickens Players repeated the vignettes from the play at locations from Upper Main down to Riehle Plaza.

Many vendors were inundated with Dickens attendees. Lafayette Brewery had both the regulars and those just dropping by and was filled at lunch time. Lafayette Lacemakers demoed in one of their windows. In the other window this year was a skilled egg ornament crafter selling her wares.

At the end of the day, the annual lighting of the Courthouse dome occurred. A delightful sight indeed.

Put the first Saturday of December on your schedule for next year’s Dickens.

Remember, too, that the Christmas Parade is on the Sunday after.
