On Tuesday March 18, Dick Vitale took time out of his day to announce Allstate’s March Mayhem Challenge with a one-ton Texas Longhorn named Joel. Joel and Dick Vitale faced off at the Fort Worth Stockyards to make their picks for the 2014 NCAA basketball tournament.

In case you were wondering, there’s a lot on the line for Dick Vitale if he happens to lose in this unpredictable tournament. If Vital loses, the legendary basketball analyst will have to work as Joel’s personal ranch hand for the day. He’ll also have to get the herd prepared for their daily cattle drive down Exchange Avenue.

Allstate will make donations to both the V Foundation for cancer research and friends of the Fort Worth Herd.

Dick Vitale is fired up for the challenge and ready for the actual tournament to begin.

The one thing that excites Dick Vitale about the March Mayhem challenge is that Allstate donates a lot of money to the V-Foundation.

Joel picks VCU as one of his Final Four teams. Are the VCU Rams destined for the 2014 National championship?

William: What are your Final Four picks?

Dick Vitale: Florida is a dangerous No.1 seed. They bring a veteran team that starts four seniors. Scottie Wilbekin leads one of the best defensive teams in the country and they’ve been to the elite 8 for three straight seasons.

In the East, Michigan State should make it to the Final Four. I look for Louisville coming out of the Midwest. I couldn’t believe the committee seeded them No. 4, because the eye test tells you they’re better than that. In the West, I like Arizona with their strong back court.

When it’s all said and done, Dick Vitale has Michigan State cutting down the nets over Louisville in the final. That's two No.4 seeds making it to the final game.

William: Besides the Midwest, what is the toughest bracket?

Dick: The South is the second toughest bracket, but nothing compares to the Midwest bracket.

William: There’s always a new breakout player, who will it be?

Dick Vitale: Every year we will have breakout players and breakout coaches. A coach gets hot and wins two games and is the hottest flavor in the world. Next thing you know is he's up for every available job.

Michael Frazier is capable of making five or six threes and all of a sudden people will be buzzing about his game. A lot of players like James Young of Kentucky or Gary Harris of Michigan State have a chance to become big stars. However, I have to make sure that Joel doesn’t become a big star. The star has to be Dickie V.

We asked Dick Vitale about Wichita State being one of the great teams of all time. While, he doesn’t think they will be one of the all time great teams, it’s something he will revisit if the Shockers run the table.

William: If Wichita State wins title would they be considered one of greatest teams ever?

Dick Vitale: If the Shockers get by the first round, they’ll possibly play Kentucky or a Kansas State. In the Sweet 16 match up, they would possibly have to play Louisville. After that, their could be a game with Duke or Michigan just to earn a Final Four berth. I don’t see them better than the UCLA teams that coach Wooden had, or the great Indiana team of 1976.

There’s nothing better in sports than the three weeks for March Mayhem. Everybody gets involved, they put the sweatshirts on, pick the school, and it becomes special.

William: What are your upset picks in the first weekend?

Dick Vitale: Kansas could be in trouble without Joel Embiid protecting the rim. Although New Mexico lost to Kansas by 17 during the regular season match up, the Lobos will be ready to take the Jayhawks down.

Dick Vitale brought up another upset pick. He’s picking First Four winner, North Carolina State to give St. Louis all they want and more on Thursday.

Dick Vitale: T.J. Warren, “ the Super Sophomore” is a scoring machine. Saint Louis lost four of their last five games, and they’ll have a tough time with the Wolfpack.

We wish Dickie V luck in his pursuit of greatness as he takes on Joel in the March Mayhem challenge. If the tournament is as unpredictable as the regular season, there could be a major upset brewing. Either way, it will be super, scintillating, and sensational.
