Executive producer and director Jeff Margolis announcement on the Screen Actors Guild on Jan. 15 that Dick Van Dyke will be honored for his career achievements and humanitarian accomplishments by being present the forty-ninth Life Achievement Award at the nineteenth SAG Awards ceremony on Sunday, Jan. 27 in Los Angeles.
The Screen Actors Guild Awards will view as a simulcast live on TNT from the Shrine Exposition Center on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. CST.
The award will be presented to him by actor, producer, director and veteran writer Carl Reiner. Also presenting the award will be Alec Baldwin who has been awarded the SAG Award seven times and has been a nominee eighteen times.
Over the years Dick has won five Academy Awards, he earned a Golden Globe nomination and a Grammy. He has also written several books. Early in his life (1946) he served in the Air Force. He is an excellent cartoonist and caricaturist. During script readings for “The Dick Van Dyke Show” he used to draw pictures of the cast including Morey Amsterdam and Mary Tyler Moore.
Dick Van Dyke made his television and acting debut in 1957 and his Broadway debut in 1959. During his career achievements he has become a household name that families fell in love with. His Broadway shows, movies and television series have been fulfilling, fun, entertaining, humorous and have brought families together to see his antics, jokes, dance moves and wonderful talent in all the venues he’s played over the years.
Some of the classic shows, musicals that he is most famous for are: “Mary Poppins,” “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” “Night at the Museum,” “Bye Bye Birdie,” “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” “Diagnosis Murder,” “Dick Tracy,” “The Runner Stumbles” and the “Comic.”
The past twenty years he has dedicated himself to volunteering with commitment at the Los Angeles shelter called the Midnight Mission. Here he helped raise millions of dollars for their new building and programs that were performed there at various times throughout each year as well as at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Past recipients of the Life Achievement Award include: Angela Lansbury, Betty White, Charles Durning, Clint Eastwood, Edward Asner, Elizabeth Taylor, Ernest Borgnine, George Burns, James Earl Jones, James Garner, Julie Andrews, Karl Malden, Kirk Douglas, Mary Tyler Moore, Ossie Davis, Robert Redford, Ruby Dee, Shirley Temple Black and Sidney Poitier.
Dick Van Dyke, 87 has given the public and fans around the world so much through his lifetime. It is a great honor to be presented with the Life Achievement Award. An award he deserves and has earned during his career on and off stage and camera.
