Dick Van Dyke believes someone up there was watching out for him as his car exploded into flames on the highway just minutes after passersby helped him out of the car. According to “Fox and Friends” on Tuesday morning live, Aug. 20, Van Dyke said it was just a coincidence that a fireman, a nurse and a policeman were all in the area when the car caught on fire. They are the ones who came and helped him.
ABC News reports Tuesday that Van Dyke stopped his car on the side of the highway to get something out of his glove compartment and the car started smoking. It was then these strangers showed up and helped him get out of the car. It was minutes later when his Jaguar exploded into a fireball.
He took a few snapshots of his car's charred shell and posted them on Twitter today. Van Dyke's wife Arlene tweeted a video of the wreck and wrote, “Van Dyke's melted car. He is fine thank God!”
His rep chimed in and wrote, “He had a long day and he is resting.” Van Dyke was on his way to the dentist when this bizarre fire took hold. If he had been in that car just a few more minutes, the story today could be very different one today.
