Dick Van Dyke was rescued from his car when it burst into flames on the freeway in Los Angeles. On Aug. 19, MSN Wonderwall reported that the 87-year-old actor was saved by a Good Samaritan named James Pennington. When Van Dyke's Jaguar went up in flames, he could not get out of the car -- and Pennington rushed over to help.
Pennington says that he saw an "elderly man hunched over" in the driver's seat. He quickly opened the car door and pulled the actor to safety. Thankfully, Van Dyke wasn't injured. He says that someone must be "looking after him."
Dick Van Dyke said that his car started making a weird noise and he initially thought that he had a flat tire. "Then it started smoking... then it burned to a crisp," recalled Van Dyke. He is definitely feeling "lucky to be alive" after the ordeal and he fears that if it wasn't for Pennington's brave act, he would have been badly injured in the vehicle -- or worse.
Van Dyke's wife has since sent out a message on Twitter letting everyone know that her husband is doing okay after the ordeal.
