Diatomaceous Earth: Natural wormer for dogs (Photos)

We have all heard of puppies having worms or needing to be wormed. Sometimes when you buy a puppy, the breeder has already wormed the litter and you will have no future issues with worms. However, sometimes even if the litter has been properly wormed you still may be faced with this issue yourself. Puppies (and even adult dogs) can pick up worms from many different places and it does not mean that you (or the breeder) did something wrong.

There are a few different options you have if you find that you need to de-worm your puppy. As with any other issues you should always consult your veterinarian. Your vet can give you an oral medicine (usually pills, powder or liquid) that you can give to your puppy. While these wormers usually do the trick, there are some people that may want a more natural solution. As with any chemicals that we put into our dogs body, there can be negative side effects.

A natural solution to the chemical wormers is Diatomaceous Earth (DE). Diatomaceous Earth is basically a white powder which consists of crushed up fossils and shells. It works by dehydrating fleas, other insects and worms and eventually killing them.

You simply add a small amount of DE to the dog (or puppy)’s food each day and it should take care of any worms or parasites that the dog (or puppy) may have internally.
