Diane Sawyer rumors have been buzzing around in recent days amidst reports that she will be retiring soon. However, on Jan. 30, Mediaite issued a statement by Jeffrey Schneider who is SVP of ABC News which stated that Sawyer has no intention of retiring at this time. The rumors were all started when "New York Daily News" reported that an insider had the scoop that Sawyer was hanging up her microphone.
The Diane Sawyer rumors stated that the first female correspondent for "60 Minutes" was ready to call it quits on her long media career. The rumors gained momentum since she is approaching 70-years-old and ready to wind down. New York Daily News reported:
“She has discussed with a few close friends and some people at ABC that she is seriously considering retiring … She said she’ll be ready to hang it up not long down the road. She loves work and what she does and has endless energy, but she’s overwhelmed with personal problems and she is thinking about leaving to take care of her family.”
Mediaite has put the Diane Sawyer rumors to rest because Schneider of ABC News not only disputed the rumor, but also suggested that the NYDN did not seem to be checking the facts before they ran the gossip.
“That is not true. And had the Daily News actually asked us if Diane was considering retiring we would have told them yesterday that it wasn’t true.”
The 67-year-old veteran newscaster has been spending more time with her mother lately who is fighting an unknown illness. Sawyer has worked at ABC for about 25 years which includes a stretch she co-anchored "Good Morning America", the network's morning show.
It appears that the rumors were based more on an assumption than reality. Thanks for reading my celebrity articles. In order to continue to read my articles about the latest celebrity news, please click subscribe just above the comments section. You can contact me at Char.Raynor@yahoo.com.
