Diane Sawyer retirement rumors abound; ABC News denies rumors (Video)

Tuesday, rumors abound that Diane Sawyer was considering retirement in 2013 and it has created an Internet buzz Wednesday. Diane Sawyer is the anchor for ABC World News and she has been in the news business for almost 25 years. A source close to Sawyer told Confidenti@l at the New York Daily News:

She has discussed with a few close friends and some people at ABC that she is seriously considering retiring. She said she’ll be ready to hang it up not long down the road. She loves work and what she does and has endless energy, but she’s overwhelmed with personal problems and she is thinking about leaving to take care of her family.

No one wants to see her going through a rough time. She’s the nicest woman. If it’s a co-worker’s birthday, she’ll throw a party. Anything to show everyone a good time.

The source also said that on the weekends Sawyer has been assisting her mother with an illness.

Sawyer, 67, was one of the co-anchors on “Good Morning America” and moved to “ABC World News” a few years ago. She has conducted incredible interviews over the years, and has had several major scoops. Diane Sawyer has interviewed hundreds of people including Fidel Castro, Saddam Hussein, Whitney Houston, Gabby Giffords and President Obama.

Last November, Diane Sawyer made her own headline news when she appeared during Election Night coverage sleepy and slurring her words. The media reported that she may have been drunk, but Sawyer said she was just very tired.

Tuesday, ABC responded to the rumors with a statement from a rep:

That’s a bunch of nonsense as we made clear and Diane’s plans for 2013 haven’t changed in any way.
