But actually she is not doing this for travel reasons. She has been working on the goal of swimming from Cuba across the Florida Straits without a shark cage. Not only does the Florida Straits have sharks, it also can contain stormy weather and jelly fish, both of which Diana faced during her last attempt. Learning from that past experience, she is dressed in a full body suit in order to protect her from the jelly fish. She began this dream in 1978 at the age of 28. She is now 64. Aside from maybe seeing some beautiful sea life along the way, her main initiative in doing this long swim is to try to bring Cuba and the United States closer together.
This fifth and last attempt at accomplishing her goal is the furthest she has ever gotten. It should be a lesson for everyone that if one wants to go from point A to point B, one can do so in creative ways to make it happen. And good luck on reaching the destination!
