Sunday, Diana Nyad completed her lifelong goal of swimming from Cuba to Key West; Tuesday, Diana Nyad sat down with CNN to talk about her experience. Her lips were still slightly swollen from the sea water, but she sounded more determined than ever. Once out of the water, Nyad said…”Never, ever give up” and the crowds in Key West cheered her on.
CNN has followed Diana Nyad’s story for over a decade and was there when she dropped into the water in Cuba and when she came ashore over two days later in Key West. She said that her motto this year has been to “find a way.” The motivational 64-year-old said she doesn’t wake up each day as gay, female or even a 64-year-old woman, she said that she wakes up instead as a motivated person who gets a chance at another day.
Diana Nyad made the 110 mile swim in just over two days without a shark cage and she couldn’t be more proud of it. This was her 5th attempt in to the last thirty years with a goal that started when she was just 29.
